Check the switch's total PoE budget, not just the port count. Add up the power each camera draws, with extra headroom for IR at night, and make sure the total stays under the switch's rated wattage.

When a 4G router makes sense

The N300 4G LTE router takes a SIM card and creates a WiFi network wherever there's cellular signal. It suits plots, farms, building sites and holiday homes with no fibre, and keeps cameras and alarm communicators online. On a cheap mini UPS, it can also keep the internet up through loadshedding.

Common questions

Do I need the cloud app? No. The switches and routers work out of the box. The Ruijie Cloud app adds remote monitoring, alerts and setup from your phone, and it's free.

Indoor or outdoor access point? Ceiling access points are for indoor coverage. The RG-RAP62-OD is built for outdoor use on patios, yards and between buildings.

What's a pre-paired bridge kit? Two radios that already know each other. Mount one at each end with line of sight, and they act like a network cable through the air. It's ideal for a gate camera or a cottage without trenching.

Reyee or Ruijie? Same company. Reyee is the name used on the small-business and home range, and some products carry the Ruijie name. They work together in the same cloud app.
