The EKOL GEDIZ is a lovely GLOCK 17 type replica blank gun, featuring a full polymer frame, the GLOCK-esque backstrap. The handle is minute in width, however, it does feature a bot of length to it, which the ZORAKI 917 however, does not. It does detract a little from the realism, although, glancing over a number of other differences on this pistol, it is clear that EKOL wanted to add their own flavour to a very functional and proven design, please see;
Key Features;
-
Glock 17 replica
- Polymer frame, friendlier to medium & large hands
- No blowback rod - the blowback spring is around the barrel, akin to the WALTHER PPK design. This does induce less complications and less features likely to get lost if field stripping the pistol for cleaning.
- Raised guard around the slide catch tab, to more aggressively prevent accidental / unintention slide hold-open during shooting
- Fully functional double blade trigger safety. Works only for SA, not DA, although the trigger pull on DA is hefty enough to prevent accidental pull.
-
Chromed barrel and receiver.
- Manufactured by EKOL, one of the prime brands in the Turkish blank gun industry - excellent quality, durable parts and attention to detail, is what sets EKOL apart from most other blank gun manufacturers
-
Underbarrel Picatinny rail, MIL-STD 1913, triple slotted.
-
Reliable pistol cycling, dry and otherwise hot.
- SA / DA
- 15+1 Shot magazine capacity
- Finger rest inside the front of the trigger guard
- Pseudo striker fired
- Vertical cartridge extractor
The pistol is nice, in that has the full bodied GLOCK 17 frame size feel to it. The slide catch is a bit taller and narrowed than the GLOCK 17 one, but works just the same. The slide catch notch, you'll see, does have that tappered cut for the slide catch.
The frame as mentioned, is entirely polymer, featuring knurled rolling pins to keep the upper and lower fitted together. There are a set of ambidextrous thumb grooves on the frame that enhances ergonomy, whereas the side panels, feature moderate stippling.
The backstrap features GLOCK-like checker box stipping for improved handling traction, likewise the front of the handle features a set of centrifugal / stepped layers of squares in the finger scallops, also for handling traction. The scallops are more effiminate than the more masculine squared type you'll find on the GLOCK Gen 3 / Gen 4.
The magazine catch slightly off its perpendicular angle w/ the handle direction, although, it is one of the few pistols where you do not need to move your hand much on the frame to actually release the magazine, but it is a little out of reach, to prevent accidental pressing of the button.
The magazine detaches from the magwell will sliding ease and reinserts w/ minimal friction, which we do enjoy. The magazine follower, floorplate and baseplate are all polymer, as may expect from most Turkish blank guns.
The trigger guard is certainly interesting w/ the extra space inside / along the fore, to accomodate for a gloved finger to rest therein and the front of the trigger guard, does have more centrifugal box checkering, presumably intended for resting your off-hand index finger upon. This in shooter's terms, is to counteract muzzle jump per shot fired, though w/ a blank gun, you won't have that concern.
The trigger as mentioned, is a double blade trigger type that immitates the GLOCK® SAFE ACTION® trigger. The safety trigger is spring loaded, so it does automatically reset. The trigger itself otherwise, is both single action and double action as indicated, so you don't need to rack the slide in order to bring the trigger into play. With hammer fired guns, this would make sense, though presumably this feature is to allow one to give another go at a cartridge that may at first not have gone off, instead of dumping it manually out of the breech.
The slide cocking serrations are upright / vertical and aren't too deep. The blowback spring is a bit stiff, so your grip on the slide will have to be on the deliberate side of matters in order to rack it., not exactly woman-friendly, but does otherwise work satisfactorily.
The underbarrel of the frame features a set of three Picatinny slots for fitting optical / aim assist accessories on.
The trigger pull on this pistol is about 10mm in single action, w/ an equally long trigger reset. Not the most tactical in the whole world, but will add some safety to the pistol / prevent unintended discharge of the pistol.
Otherwise, as mentioned as well, the smiling end of the pistol features a complete absence of a blowback rod and in terms of disassembly, you'll need to push down the field strip tabs on both sides of the frame, above the front end of the trigger guard, simultaneously hitching the slide off at the rear, which is a bit different from the KUZEY GN 19 and RETAY G17 / G19C models, though it does make it harder to field strip the pistol, which can be its own benefit.
The barrel and breech assemblym is chromed out, lending a dual tone finish to the pistol. This electro-plated nickel finish is more durable than the paint options that these blank guns come shipped with.
The sights are realistic looking, although not authentic GLOCK looking or really too precision manufactured. It is a blank gun and of course, the sights aren't exactly needed on it.
..
Our overall opinion of this pistol is not the best, not the worst. Are you getting a lovely GLOCK replica for your buck? Sure. Is its frame dimensions closer to that of a GLOCK 17 than a RETAY G17? We think so.
This pistol is reminescent in a way to the BAREDDA C4 model, due to the trigger guard and hefty trigger pull. Works fine and overall, this pistol has the looks going for it as well.

Ease of Field Strip |
7/10 - Nice and easy enough if you've stripped blank guns gun for a while. The tabs have to be depressed down simultaneously and held as such and whilst sustained in this position, then the slide can be hitched off at the rear. This is advantageous as it makes it harder for the gun to "blow apart" as some guys put it (having the field strip lever disengaged / removed, then firing the pistol, whereafter the blowback will (dramatically) strip the slide and blowback assembly from the pistol. |
