Gamepro Hunting Spotlights and Gun Lights in South Africa

Gamepro builds spotlights for night hunting and land management, which is a different job from a general torch. These are throw-biased lights designed to reach across a field and hold a beam steady on something at distance, and several run off a 12V vehicle supply rather than internal cells alone. NeonSales carries 11 Gamepro products, from R599 for an Eagle 12V spotlight up to R5,557 for a Marsh Ultra at 8000 lumens.

Which output do you actually need?

Range Models Best suited to
600 to 1040 lumen Bubo, Bubo XL, Bubo Onboard XL Close to moderate work, and the only sensible weight to mount on a rifle
1800 to 2000 lumen Ninox, Ninox-XL, Eagle General night use across a paddock or yard
3500 to 4000 lumen Otus, Tyto Larger properties, mounted or handheld from a vehicle
6500 to 8000 lumen Marsh, Marsh Ultra Long range identification across open ground

Rechargeable or 12V?

Rechargeable models run off internal cells and go anywhere, which suits walking. The 12V models draw from a vehicle supply, which removes the runtime limit entirely and is why the higher outputs sit in that group. An 80W light running on internal cells alone would have a short working life, so the Marsh and Tyto class are built around a vehicle or an external battery. Decide how you actually hunt before choosing on lumens alone.

Mounting a light on a rifle

The Bubo Onboard XL is the version built for rail mounting. A handheld spotlight strapped to a barrel is heavy, throws the balance off and rarely holds zero on the mount. If you want light on the rifle, buy the model designed for it rather than adapting one that is not.

Common questions

Do more lumens mean more distance? Not directly. Beam focus matters as much as output, and a tightly focused 2000 lumen light will out-throw a broad 4000 lumen one. Gamepro lights are throw-biased by design, which is why they reach further than general torches of similar rating.

Can I use these as a general torch? They work, though they are large and narrow-beamed for everyday tasks. A handheld torch is better for walking to a gate.

What runtime should I expect? Inversely related to output. Running a light at maximum drains it considerably faster than at a lower setting, and most models have several output levels for exactly that reason.

Is the Marsh Ultra worth the step up? Only if you genuinely need to identify something at long range. For most properties the 2000 to 4000 lumen band covers the work at a fraction of the price.
