Open or enclosed emitter

This is the distinction worth understanding before buying a reflex sight. An open emitter projects the dot from an exposed LED onto the lens, which makes the sight small and light. Rain, dust or mud landing on that emitter blocks the dot entirely. An enclosed sight such as the Frenzy MRS seals the emitter inside a housing, which costs size and money and keeps working when the weather does not. For a hunting rifle in the field, enclosed is worth the difference.

Getting the mounting right

Two things must match before anything else. Tube diameter, printed on the scope and not guessable by eye, in 25.4mm, 30mm or 34mm here. And rail type, with dovetail on most air rifles and Picatinny on tactical platforms. Vector stocks rings for both across all three diameters, plus risers for raising sight height and M-LOK and KeyMod sections for adding accessory rails to a handguard. Note that M-LOK and KeyMod are competing systems and are not interchangeable.

The 40 MOA rings exist for long range work where a scope runs out of elevation adjustment before reaching the target. On general shooting they waste adjustment rather than gaining it, so choose 0 MOA unless you know you need the tilt.

Common questions

What does auto brightness do? The Frenzy-X adjusts dot intensity to ambient light, so it stays visible in bright sun without washing out your night vision in the dark. It removes a setting you would otherwise be changing constantly.

Is a 1x35 red dot better than a 1x18? The number is window size rather than magnification. A larger window makes acquiring the dot easier, at more bulk and weight.

Will these survive a springer? Spring piston recoil destroys optics not built for it. Check the specific model before mounting on a springer.

What is a riser for? It raises the optic, usually to clear iron sights or to get a comfortable head position on a platform with a high comb.
