The two look similar and share a manufacturer, yet they are entirely different tools. Check which one you are buying before you order, and confirm the legal position for your own circumstances, since requirements differ by product category and by province.

ASP, MCX, MPX and Virtus: what do the names mean?

ASP is SIG's Advanced Sport Pellet line, the airgun side of the business. MCX and MPX are airgun versions of SIG's rifle and submachine gun platforms, close enough to the originals in weight, controls and manual of arms to be useful for familiarisation and cheap practice. Virtus is a separate airgun platform with its own magazine format. Magazines are not interchangeable across these platforms, so match the magazine to the exact model you own.

Common questions

How many spare magazines should I buy? At least one, and realistically two. Reloading is the main interruption in any session, which is exactly why the twin-pack ASP magazines exist.

Is the MCX with the red dot worth it over the plain carbine? If you do not already own an optic, the packaged 1x20 red dot costs less than buying a comparable sight separately and comes zeroed to the same platform. If you already have optics, the plain carbine is the better value.

What consumables will I need? Blank guns need 9mm P.A.K. rounds. CO2 platforms need capsules. Pellet carbines need .177 or .22 pellets to match the barrel. Check the calibre marked on your specific model rather than assuming.
