Pyronix Indoor PIR Detectors in South Africa

Pyronix is a British alarm manufacturer, and NeonSales stocks two of its indoor PIR detectors, the KX10DP at R249 and the FPKX15DD dual element at R189.

Dual element or standard?

A dual element PIR uses two sensing elements rather than one, and signals only when both register the same movement. That rejects a large share of the false triggers caused by sudden temperature change, sunlight across a wall or a draught from an air conditioner. On a detector covering a room with a window or a heat source, it is worth having.

Mounting matters as much as the detector

PIRs detect movement across their field of view rather than towards it, so a detector aimed straight down a passage will respond later than one mounted to catch movement crossing its view. Mount at the height specified for the model, keep it away from direct sunlight, heaters and air conditioning outlets, and avoid pointing it at a window.

Common questions

Will these work with my panel? Both are wired detectors using standard alarm inputs, so they integrate with common panels including IDS. Check zone wiring and end of line resistor requirements for your specific panel.

Are they pet friendly? Check the individual listing. Pet immunity is a specific feature rather than a given, and mounting height affects it considerably.

Why is the dual element cheaper? Pricing across detector ranges does not always track features. Compare the specification rather than assuming the more expensive unit is the more capable one.
