Surface mount or pinhole gate station?

Surface mount units are the conventional choice, easy to fit onto a wall or a post and simple to service. Pinhole stations are more discreet and considerably harder to identify as a camera, which some installations prefer. Both do the same job, so the choice is about appearance and how visible you want the equipment to be.

Fit the rainshield

This is the cheapest thing in the range and the one that determines how long the gate station lasts. A station mounted on an exposed wall takes direct sun and driven rain, and the rainshield is what stops water tracking into the housing. Three sizes are stocked including a version with a grill. On any outdoor mounting it should be treated as part of the install rather than an optional extra.

Common questions

Can I add a second monitor? Yes, and the 1-to-2 intercom kit is built for it. Adding an indoor station later is common as households grow, so check that the gate station you choose supports the number of monitors you may eventually want.

What is the difference between 220V and 12V kits? How the system is powered. 220V units run from mains directly. 12V kits suit installations where a low voltage supply already exists, often alongside gate motor or alarm power.

Will it work during loadshedding? Not on mains power alone. A 12V system on a battery-backed supply keeps working, which is worth considering given how often the gate needs answering during an outage.

Can the intercom open the gate? Most video intercoms include a relay output for exactly this. Confirm the wiring against your gate motor, since the connection differs between brands.
