There is a clear moment where a bipod stops being enough. Long waits at a lookout, heavy rifles, awkward cross slopes, or any shot where you need the rest to hold position without your hands on it at all. The RAM Trigger Stick Gen 3 Tripod answers that with a third leg, and the difference in steadiness is immediately obvious the first time you settle behind it.
A two legged rest still relies on the shooter to supply the final axis of balance. Three legs remove that dependency entirely. The tripod stands on its own, holds its own position, and stays exactly where you put it whether you are behind it or not. That opens up ways of working a bipod simply cannot: setting up a position and stepping back, letting a rifle rest untouched while you glass with binoculars, or holding a spotting scope steady for long periods without fatigue creeping into the image.
On uneven ground the advantage compounds. Each of the three extendable locking legs sets independently, so a slope, a rock or a tussock becomes something to work around rather than something that ruins your stance.
Height still changes with a single squeeze. The trigger grip releases the legs, the rest moves to where you need it, and releasing the trigger locks it in place. Your shooting hand never leaves the rifle. The Gen 3 covers 1 metre to 1.65 metres, taking you from kneeling through to standing, and because the adjustment is instant you can follow a target that moves from lower ground to higher without breaking position or losing sight of it.
Anodised aluminium construction keeps the tripod manageable to carry while standing up to hard field use, dust and moisture over repeated seasons.
Lift the V yoke away and a standard tripod mount is revealed beneath, ready for spotting scopes, laser rangefinders, cameras and most tripod mountable devices. Combined with the free standing three leg design, this is where the tripod really pulls ahead of its two legged sibling. A camera or scope mounted on it needs no human input to stay level and pointed, which makes it a practical stand for wildlife photography, long observation sessions and range work.
Choose the tripod over the bipod when stability and hands free operation matter more than shaving weight, and when you expect to spend time set up in one spot rather than moving constantly.
