This torch does not make light the way other torches do. Instead of an LED behind a reflector, it uses a blue laser fired into a phosphor crystal coating, which converts the narrow blue output into wide spectrum white light. The result is a beam that behaves like a laser in terms of how tightly it stays together over distance, while looking like ordinary white light when it lands.
The headline reach is 1100 metres from a maximum output of 400 lumens, and that pairing looks wrong until you understand the mechanism. Conventional torches reach further by producing more light and throwing more of it away at the edges of the beam. A laser driven emitter starts with a source that barely diverges, so almost all of it goes forward. Four hundred lumens aimed that precisely outruns several thousand lumens scattered across a wide cone. The second setting gives 45 lumens and still reaches 350 metres.
High runs 2 hours 15 minutes and low runs 4 hours 15 minutes on a single 18650 cell, with strobe and momentary on also available. The body measures 151 millimetres long with a 25.4 millimetre body diameter and a 34 millimetre head, weighing 148 grams before the battery, which keeps it genuinely pocketable for the reach it offers. Charging is direct over USB through a port that also accepts the remote control switch, so there is no separate cap to unscrew and lose when swapping between the two.
The housing is aluminium alloy with a Type III hard anodised finish, rated impact resistant to 1 metre and rated for immersion to 1 metre underwater.
