Nebo Lil Larry 500 Flex plus Einstein Duo 400: one light for your head, one for the metal
This is a two piece kit, and the logic behind pairing these particular lights is worth setting out. The Einstein Duo 400 goes on your head and points where you look. The Lil Larry 500 Flex sticks magnetically to whatever you are working on and stays aimed at the job. Between them you have hands free light from two directions, which is what most jobs actually need and what one light alone cannot provide.
Why two lights beat one
A headlamp alone puts your own head between the light and your hands whenever you lean in, so the thing you are working on sits in your shadow at precisely the moment you need to see it. A work light alone leaves everything outside its beam dark, so you cannot see what you reach for.
Running both removes both problems. The fixed light kills the shadow the headlamp creates, and the headlamp covers everything the fixed light is not pointed at. For vehicle maintenance, workshop work and anything performed inside a confined space, that combination is worth considerably more than a single brighter light.
The Lil Larry 500 Flex
A 150 millimetre COB work light weighing 75 grams, in anodised aircraft grade aluminium, rated IPX7 for full waterproofing. A magnetic base and a steel pocket clip handle mounting.
On its rechargeable 10850 cell, White COB High gives 500 lumens over 31 metres for 1.5 hours, Low provides 250 lumens for 3 hours, and a strobe runs 300 lumens for 3 hours. A red work light at 8 lumens lasts 2.5 hours and a red hazard mode at 4 lumens runs 5 hours.
It will also run on two AAA cells, at 150 lumens on high for 2 hours and 60 lumens on low for 3. That is a substantial drop, and the honest way to read it is as a backup rather than an equivalent: the rechargeable is what you use, and the AAAs are what keep the light working when you are somewhere without power.
The Einstein Duo 400
A 73 gram headlamp on three AAA cells with a tilting head, running separate spot and flood LEDs across seven modes. Spot High gives 400 lumens to 133 metres for 3 hours and Spot Low 80 lumens to 57 metres for 8 hours. Flood High provides 80 lumens for 9 hours and Flood Low 10 lumens for 34 hours.
Red modes run 3.5 lumens for 10.5 hours, 1 lumen for 40 hours, and a red strobe at 2.5 lumens for 42 hours. Direct-to-Red reaches them without white firing first, which on a head mounted light is the difference between a considerate lamp and one that blinds whoever you turn towards.
Where the kit earns its place
Nebo lists workshops, vehicle maintenance, DIY, camping and emergency preparedness, and the pairing suits all of them for the same underlying reason. Every one of those involves working with both hands on something you cannot easily move, in a place with no fixed lighting. That is precisely the problem two hands free lights solve and one does not.
It also makes a sensible emergency box. Two lights, two different mounting methods, red modes on both for preserving night vision, and no dependence on a single battery type between them.
Flex Power across both
Both lights take alternative power. The Lil Larry runs rechargeable or AAA, and the Einstein Duo runs on AAA with an optional rechargeable available. Standardising on AAA across the kit means one spare packet covers both, which for an emergency box or a camping bag is a genuine simplification.
Weights
The Lil Larry weighs 75 grams and the headlamp 73, so the pair together comes to under 150 grams. That is less than most single work lights, and it is the reason carrying both is realistic rather than a theoretical benefit that gets abandoned after a week.
Ratings
The work light is IPX7 rated and survives immersion. The headlamp is IP44, which covers splashes and rain rather than submersion. Smart Power Control manages output against remaining charge on both. A rechargeable battery and USB-C charging cable are supplied for the Lil Larry.
