Nebo Galileo 1000 Lantern: 60 hours on red low, and a 120 degree mode that doubles every runtime
The Galileo 1000 gives you six modes across two beam patterns, and the pattern choice is where the real capability sits. Running at 360 degrees lights everything around the lantern. Running at 120 degrees sends the same light one way only, and the runtime figures roughly double as a result.
Why a directional lantern is worth having
A lantern in the middle of a table wants 360 degrees. A lantern against a tent wall, in a doorway, on a shelf or at the edge of a work area does not, because half its output is lighting a surface nobody is looking at. Switching to 120 degrees puts that wasted half into the part of the room you care about and gives the battery back the difference.
At 360 degrees, High runs 1000 lumens for 2.25 hours and dimmed Low gives 100 lumens for 10 hours. At 120 degrees, High provides 450 lumens for 5.5 hours and Low gives 45 lumens for 15. Same lantern, considerably longer nights.
Galileo 1000 red modes
Red High produces 15 lumens for 18 hours. Red Low gives 2 lumens for 60 hours, which is two and a half days of continuous light. Two lumens is not illumination in any working sense, but it is enough to find the lantern, mark a tent, locate a doorway or move around without waking anybody, and it preserves the dark adaptation that white light destroys instantly.
Direct-to-Red reaches those modes without cycling through white first, which is the only way a red mode on a shared lantern is genuinely usable.
Six modes, one button
Everything runs from a single control, which is the right decision on a lantern. A lantern gets handed to other people, picked up in the dark, used by children and operated by whoever is nearest during a power cut. Anything requiring a sequence to be remembered fails that test. One button and a documented order means the lantern is usable by somebody who has never seen it before.
Where it sits against the Flex model
The two Galileo lanterns split along a clear line. This one runs on its rechargeable cell only and is the more compact of the pair. The Flex version adds the option of running on six D cells when the charge is gone, at the cost of a taller body. If the lantern is for camping and travel, this is the easier one to pack. If it is primarily insurance against extended outages, the Flex model's second power source is the feature worth paying for.
Power bank
A built in USB-A output turns the 2600 mAh 18650 cell into a phone charger. Flex Power technology handles the charging side, with USB-C in and a USB-A to USB-C cable supplied.
Size and build
At 100 by 100 by 185 millimetres this is smaller than the Flex model despite weighing more at 370 grams, which makes it the denser and more compact of the two to pack. Construction is ABS plastic, rated IPX4 against water and dust resistant, with single button operation and an integrated carabiner style handle for carrying or hanging.
