Flex-Fuel Technology means this torch takes either a 14500 rechargeable lithium cell, which is supplied, or a single AA alkaline from any shop. Most dual power torches leave you guessing at the difference. Nebo publishes both tables, and the gap between them is the whole point of the feature.
On the 14500, Turbo delivers 450 lumens to 237 metres for 40 seconds, High holds 250 lumens to 160 metres for 2.5 hours, and Low runs 80 lumens to 89 metres for 5.5 hours. On an AA, High drops to 90 lumens and 102 metres for 2.5 hours, with Low at 30 lumens and 57 metres for 4.5 hours. There is no Turbo at all on alkaline.
So the rechargeable is worth roughly three times the output and there is no sense pretending otherwise. What the AA buys is a torch that still works when you are somewhere with no power and a flat cell, which is exactly the situation a torch is carried for. Keep the 14500 in it and an AA in the bag.
At 98 grams and 108 millimetres it is genuinely pocket sized, with 6x adjustable zoom behind a convex lens taking the beam from a wide flood to a tight spot. A dual direction steel clip lets it ride either way up in a pocket or on a cap brim, and a magnetic base holds it to any steel surface for hands free use. The housing is anodised aircraft grade aluminium, water and impact resistant, with a side button carrying the battery indicator and Micro USB charging.
