Nebo Curvbeam 600 Flex Headlamp: a 180 degree flood alongside the spot, with the battery moved to the back
Two design decisions define the Curvbeam 600. The flood beam wraps 180 degrees rather than throwing a circle in front of you, and the battery sits at the rear of the strap instead of on your forehead. Both address the things that actually make headlamps unpleasant to wear for any length of time.
Why 180 degrees matters
A conventional headlamp lights a disc directly ahead. Everything outside that disc is dark, so you turn your head constantly to see what is beside you, and your peripheral vision, which is what humans use to move safely, gets nothing to work with.
The 180 degree COB flood lights the full width of what is in front of you. Walking a trail, working under a vehicle, moving through a camp or a building at night, that changes how the light feels to use. You stop scanning and start simply seeing.
Curvbeam 600 and BackBalance Fit
Putting the battery at the back of the strap rather than the front does two things. It cuts the weight pressing on your forehead, which is where headlamp discomfort comes from over a long night, and it balances the unit so it does not slowly tip forward as you move. The whole assembly weighs 124 grams and spreads that across the head instead of hanging it off the front.
Six modes on two buttons
Spot and flood have separate rear mounted buttons, so each is controlled independently rather than through one shared cycle. Spot High gives 500 lumens to 96 metres for 1.5 hours, Medium 150 lumens to 53 metres for 5.5 hours, and Low 30 lumens to 23 metres for 10 hours. The 180 degree flood runs 300 lumens for 2 hours on high or 100 lumens for 4 on low. Running both together produces the headline 600 lumens and 92 metres for 1.5 hours.
Independent control is the practical benefit here. You can hold a wide dim flood for walking and add the spot only when you need to look at something specific, without cycling through modes that do neither.
Runtime and what to plan around
The figure worth planning against is 5.5 hours on Spot Medium at 150 lumens, or 4 hours on the flood at 100. Both are comfortably usable settings, and both cover a full night's work or an evening on a trail without touching a charger. Ten hours on Spot Low extends that to a multi day trip if the lamp is used sparingly.
Running the combined 600 lumen mode gives 1.5 hours, which makes it what it should be: a setting for when you genuinely need everything, not a default.
Aiming and startup
An integrated 20 degree tilt adjusts where the beam sits without moving your head. Direct-to-Low startup brings the lamp on gently instead of firing 600 lumens at whatever, or whoever, is in front of you. Smart Power Control manages output against the remaining charge so the stated runtimes hold up.
Power and construction
A 1100 mAh lithium ion cell charges over USB-C, with charging and power indicators fitted. The build combines aluminium, TPR and ABS polymer, rated IPX4 against water and impact resistant. It measures 250 by 45 by 50 millimetres including the strap, and a USB-A to USB-C cable is supplied.
