Nebo Bando 1K Flexible Light: a 725 millimetre light band you wear, hang or stick to a bonnet
The Bando 1K is not a torch and not quite a work light. It is a flexible COB band 725 millimetres long that folds up small, and it is designed to be worn across the body as a sash, hung under a bonnet, or magnetically stuck to any steel surface. All three uses come from the same object with nothing to swap or attach.
Wearing it
The wearable configuration is the one that takes explaining. An adjustable elastic strap with a dual buckle system holds the band across your torso, so 1000 lumens of wide COB light points at whatever is directly in front of you while both hands stay free.
That is a different proposition from a headlamp. A head mounted light follows your eyes, which means it swings away from your hands every time you glance up, and it puts the light source level with the face of anyone talking to you. A chest mounted band stays aimed at your working area and lights it from roughly the angle your hands are at, which produces far fewer shadows across what you are doing. For changing a wheel, working under a bonnet or setting up a camp, it is the more practical of the two.
Under the bonnet
Padded hanging hooks and a magnetic housing cover the engine bay use. Hooked across the underside of a bonnet or stuck to the inner wing, the band lights the whole bay evenly rather than putting a bright circle on one component and leaving the rest in shadow, which is what a torch does. Two 120 degree rotating points let you angle each half of the band independently to aim the light where the work is.
Bando 1K modes
High gives 1000 lumens over 35 metres for 5 hours. Medium runs 400 lumens to 23 metres for 8 hours. Low provides 80 lumens to 10 metres for 28 hours. A red task light at 18 lumens runs 22 hours.
Two red safety modes sit alongside those. Red Hazard flashes on and off at half second intervals, marking a stopped vehicle or an obstruction. Red Signal runs a directional chasing pattern, which is the one that tells approaching traffic which way to move rather than simply that something is there. On a roadside at night that distinction is the whole point.
Twenty eight hours on low
The low setting draws 80 lumens and runs 28 hours. On a light bought for emergencies that figure carries more weight than the 1000 lumen headline does, because the situation it exists for is a long one. Eighty lumens across a 725 millimetre band is a broad soft light, easily enough to work by or to keep a room usable, and more than a day of it means the light outlasts most outages without rationing.
Power and the power bank
Two 18650 lithium ion cells at 4000 mAh and 7.4 V supply it, charging over USB-C in 4 hours at 2.0 A, 8 hours at 1.0 A or 16 hours at 0.5 A. A built in power bank lets it charge a phone, which on a roadside breakdown is arguably as useful as the light itself.
Smart Power Control manages output against remaining charge, Power Memory Recall returns the light to your last setting, and Direct-to-Red brings the red modes up without firing white light first.
Folding it away
The band folds at its two rotating points, which is what lets a 725 millimetre light live in a glovebox. That is the practical constraint on emergency equipment: anything that will not fit in the vehicle gets left at home, and a light left at home is no light at all. Folded, this takes up less room than a tyre pressure gauge and a torch together, while replacing both a work light and a warning triangle.
Build
ABS and PC construction, rated IPX4 against water and impact resistant, weighing 300 grams and folding down from its 725 millimetre length to something that fits a glovebox. Dual backlit buttons carry LED power and battery indicators, and a USB-A to USB-C cable is included.
