Ledlenser P7R Pro Flashlight: 2000 lumens, CRI 80 neutral white, and four signalling modes most owners never learn
Ledlenser's P7R Pro flashlight is built for trade and industrial work, and the headline specification reads accordingly: 2000 lumens in Boost, 320 metres of reach, a replaceable 21700 cell and IP68 sealing. What tends to get overlooked is the set of four signalling modes sitting behind the Mode Select Ring, which exist for the situations where a torch stops being a light and becomes a way of being found.
SOS, Strobe, Position and Blink
SOS transmits the international distress pattern, three short, three long, three short, repeating. It is recognised everywhere and it is what you use when you need help and cannot ask for it.
Strobe is a fast irregular flash. At distance it draws attention; at close range it briefly disrupts someone's vision.
Position is the quiet one, and the least understood. It is a slow low intensity pulse designed to run for a very long time, marking where something is without consuming the battery. Left on a pack, a vehicle, a piece of equipment or a rendezvous point, it says here rather than look at me.
Blink is faster and brighter than Position, intended to mark a hazard or make a person conspicuous: a broken down vehicle, an open trench, someone working near moving traffic.
Having all four available from a ring you can turn with gloves on is what makes them usable at all. Modes buried behind press sequences are modes nobody locates in an emergency.
Colour accuracy for trade work
The emitter is neutral white at 4500 to 5500 K with CRI 80 rendering. That combination shows colour close to the way daylight shows it, which matters when the task depends on identifying a conductor, a fluid, a corrosion stain or a paint reference. It is also gentler on the eyes across a full shift than a cool blue beam.
Ledlenser P7R Pro flashlight output ladder
Boost delivers 2000 lumens to 320 metres in short bursts. Power settles at 1200 lumens to 240 metres for around 2.5 hours. Mid Power gives 450 lumens to 150 metres for roughly 5 hours. Low Power drops to 25 lumens and 35 metres, running about 60 hours. The Advanced Focus System covers everything between a broad flood and a tight spot.
Focus
The Advanced Focus System runs the beam continuously between a wide flood and a tight spot with a push and pull of the head. There are no fixed positions to click through, so you can sit anywhere between the extremes and stay there. On a work torch that means one tool covers reading a plate at arm's length and picking out a fault forty metres up a structure.
Power and charging
A replaceable 21700 Li-ion cell of 4600 mAh reaches full charge in about 3 hours over USB-C, and a Type D charging station is supplied for a bench, a wall or a vehicle. Replaceable is the operative word. When the cell eventually degrades you fit a new one, rather than replacing a torch that is otherwise fine.
Bumpers, and the case for taking them off
The rubber bumpers fitted front and rear come off, which is unusual enough to be worth explaining. Left on, they absorb impact and stop the torch rolling away when set down on a sloped surface, which is what most owners want. Taken off, the torch slims down enough to sit properly in a belt holster or a tight pocket, and the bare aluminium grips better in a gloved hand. The choice is yours rather than the manufacturer's, and it takes seconds to change depending on what the day involves.
Construction
The 75 percent recycled aluminium body takes removable rubber bumpers for impact protection, holds an IP68 rating against dust and submersion, and is rated to survive a 2 metre drop. Output is flicker free, a Temperature Control System manages heat, and battery and charge indicators with a low battery warning keep you ahead of a flat cell. It measures 170 millimetres, 176 when focused, with a 42 millimetre head, and weighs 223 grams.
