Ledlenser's P7R 25th Anniversary Edition Flashlight: two batteries in the box and a warranty running to 25 years
Anniversary editions usually amount to a different colour and a higher price. This one does come in an exclusive Dark Blue finish on a familiar body, but Ledlenser's P7R 25th Anniversary Edition also carries two things that change the ownership proposition rather than the appearance: a second 21700 battery, and a warranty extendable to 25 years on registration.
The second battery
A spare cell decides whether the torch runs out at all. Swapping takes seconds, so a flat battery becomes a pause rather than the end of the job, and the torch that would otherwise be sitting on a bench charging stays in service instead.
For anyone using the light professionally this is the most useful thing in the box. A working day that outlasts one cell is entirely normal, and without a spare the alternative is either accepting that the light stops or carrying a power bank and cable to nurse it along.
Both cells use the standard 21700 format found across the current Ledlenser range, so they are not specific to this edition and can be replaced individually when the time comes.
It also changes how the pair ages. Alternating two cells means each takes half the charge cycles, and lithium ion life is counted in cycles, so both last considerably longer than a single cell worked continuously would. Two batteries bought together outlive two batteries bought years apart.
Twenty five years of warranty
Registering the torch online extends the warranty to 25 years. That is longer than most people keep any tool, and it reflects a particular view of what a torch is. Batteries are consumable and replaceable. The body, the optics and the electronics are not, and a warranty of that length says the manufacturer expects them to still be working long after the finish has worn off.
P7R 25th Anniversary Edition flashlight output
Boost delivers 2000 lumens and up to 320 metres. Power holds 1200 lumens to 240 metres for around 2.5 hours. Mid Power gives 450 lumens to 150 metres for about 5.5 hours. Low Power runs 25 lumens to 35 metres for as much as 80 hours. Four brightness levels plus Boost are selected on the Mode Select Ring, which sets the output before you switch on rather than cycling through it afterwards.
What it shares with the standard P7R
Mechanically this is the P7R platform, and that is a recommendation rather than a caveat. The Mode Select Ring, the Advanced Focus System, the 21700 cell format and the IP68 housing are all proven parts of the current range rather than something built specially for an anniversary. Buying a limited edition of an established design means the limited part is the finish and the contents of the box, not the engineering.
Focus and handling
Focus is handled by the Advanced Focus System, which runs the beam continuously between spot and flood. The torch measures 159 millimetres with a 35 millimetre head and a 27 millimetre tube, and weighs 197 grams. Charging takes about 3 hours over USB-C, with an adjustable hand strap and a USB-C cable supplied.
Eighty hours on low
The lowest setting draws 25 lumens and runs for up to 80 hours. Combined with a second battery, the practical endurance on that mode runs to something over a week of continuous operation. For expedition use, extended outages or anywhere resupply is uncertain, that is a different order of capability from a single cell torch.
The finish
The Dark Blue anodising is exclusive to this edition and is the visible part of it. Underneath, the aluminium is 75 percent recycled, as it is across the current range.
Who it suits
Anyone who was going to buy a P7R anyway and would rather have two cells than one. The finish is a matter of taste, the warranty is worth having, and the spare battery is worth roughly what the price difference tends to be on its own. It is a straightforward proposition rather than a collector's item, which is unusual for an anniversary edition.
Protection
Sealing is IP68 against both dust and water. The body is rated to survive a drop of 2 metres, and the torch is specified to work from minus 20 degrees Celsius up to plus 40. A Transportation Lock keeps it switched off through storage and transport.
