Ledlenser P5R Pro Flashlight: 750 lumens of neutral white light with CRI 80 colour accuracy
Nearly every pocket torch on the market runs a cool white emitter somewhere around 6000 to 7500 K with a CRI near 70. It is bright, it is cheap to produce, and it makes everything look faintly blue. The Ledlenser P5R Pro flashlight does not do that. It uses a neutral white LED at 4500 to 5500 K with CRI 80 rendering, and for anyone whose work depends on telling one colour from another, that single specification is the reason to pick it over the standard model.
What neutral white and CRI 80 actually change
Colour Rendering Index measures how faithfully a light source reproduces colour compared with daylight. At CRI 70 you can see everything perfectly well, but reds go muddy, browns and greens start to converge, and anything depending on a colour code becomes a guess you then have to verify. At CRI 80 those distinctions survive. Electricians reading conductors, mechanics tracing which fluid is leaking, inspectors judging corrosion or staining, and anyone matching a finish all rely on that.
Colour temperature works alongside it. Cool white creates a harsh contrast that tires your eyes over a long session. Sitting at 4500 to 5500 K puts the beam closer to the light you would be working in during daylight, which is considerably easier to look at for hours at a time.
Ledlenser P5R Pro flashlight output and runtime
Boost gives 750 lumens to 280 metres in short bursts. Power holds 350 lumens to 180 metres for about an hour, Mid Power runs 100 lumens to 100 metres for roughly 3.5 hours, and Low Power provides 25 lumens to 50 metres for up to 18 hours. The Advanced Focus System moves the beam continuously between a wide flood and a tight spot, so one torch covers a workbench and a yard without compromise at either end.
Two ways to power it
The supplied cell is a rechargeable 14500 Li-ion of around 920 mAh, charged over USB-C in about 3 hours. The torch will also run from a plain AA alkaline or a NiMH rechargeable, which is the fallback that counts when you are somewhere without power and the charge is gone. A AA can be bought anywhere. Battery status, charge indication and a low battery warning tell you which situation you are in before it becomes a problem.
The charging station
A wall mountable dock is included. Fixed beside a door, at a workbench or inside a vehicle, it gives the torch a permanent place to live and means it is at full charge every time you reach for it. Torches kept loose in a drawer get found flat. Torches kept in a bracket do not.
Where it fits
This is a torch for work that is close in and detail led rather than conducted at distance: service technicians, inspectors, auto electricians, anyone reading small components or documentation in poor light. Two hundred and eighty metres of reach is there when it is wanted, but the neutral tint and the pocketable body point at a different job from the long throw models elsewhere in the range.
Size and protection
It weighs 116 grams with the cell fitted and measures 131 millimetres, extending to 135 when focused, with a 36 millimetre head. Removable rubber bumpers add impact protection and stop it rolling off a sloped surface. The aluminium is 75 percent recycled, sealing is IP68 for dust and submersion, and it survives a 2 metre drop. Operating range runs minus 20 to plus 40 degrees Celsius, with a Temperature Control system holding output steady and a Transportation Lock for storage.
