The flagship of the range produces 7000 lumens and reaches 630 metres, but raw figures are not really the story with the Ledlenser P18R Signature flashlight. Three high performance LEDs sit behind X-Lens optical technology, and what that combination delivers is beam quality: a clean even column of light with no dark rings, no ragged hotspot edges and no artefacts where the three sources meet.
Multi LED torches share a characteristic weakness. Each emitter throws its own circle, those circles overlap imperfectly, and the result is a beam with bright patches, dim seams and an uneven edge. At distance this makes it genuinely difficult to interpret what you are looking at, because variation in the beam reads as variation in the scene.
X-Lens optics merge the three sources into one before the light leaves the head. What lands four hundred metres away is a single uniform disc. For search work, for identifying something at range, and for anyone using the torch as a light source for photography or video, that uniformity is worth more than another thousand lumens would be.
The output is also flicker free, which is the related point. A pulsing source is invisible to the eye but produces banding across camera sensors, so flicker free operation is what makes footage shot under this torch usable rather than unusable.
Boost reaches 7000 lumens and 630 metres. Power holds 3500 lumens to 440 metres for about 2 hours. Mid Power runs 1000 lumens to 240 metres for roughly 5.5 hours. Low Power gives 100 lumens to 45 metres for up to 45 hours. Colour temperature is a cool 6000 to 7500 K with CRI 70 rendering.
This version produces 7000 lumens against the standard P18R's 6500, and reaches 630 metres against 600. Those are narrow margins and they are not the reason to choose it. The optics package is. X-Lens delivers a beam that is measurably cleaner at range, and the difference between the two torches is obvious at four hundred metres in a way the difference in the lumen figures is not.
A Mode Select Ring handles mode selection, the Transportation Lock and access to the USB-C charging port, while a separate side switch gives fast operation once a mode is set. One-Touch Focus, part of the Advanced Focus System, moves the beam from flood to spot in a single motion.
A rechargeable pack of three 18650 cells at 11.1 V, a premium charging station that doubles as a stand, a USB-C cable, an adjustable hand strap and a hard transport case. That case is worth noting. A 651 gram torch with an 86 millimetre head does not travel well loose in a bag, and a light this size normally lives in a vehicle or a kit store between jobs. Charging takes around 3.5 hours.
An 86 millimetre head and 651 grams means this is held differently from a duty torch. Two handed for sustained scanning, or braced against a vehicle, a post or your own shoulder, much as you would steady a pair of binoculars. Used that way the beam stays where you put it at long range, which is the entire point of having the reach. The adjustable hand strap counts for more here than on a smaller light.
Search and rescue, security, law enforcement, industrial inspection, and serious outdoor use where the distances involved are real ones. It is not a pocket torch and it is not sold as one.
At Power the pack lasts about two hours, and that is the figure to plan around for active search work. Mid Power extends it to roughly five and a half hours, sufficient for most tasks that do not demand maximum reach. Low Power, at 45 hours, turns the torch into an area light for a base or a vehicle once the searching is finished.
Charcoal finished aluminium made with 75 percent recycled content, sealed to IP68 against dust and water, drop tested to 1 metre. The body measures 196 millimetres with an 86 millimetre head and a 47 millimetre tube, weighing approximately 651 grams with the battery pack fitted.
