The number that separates the NEO9R from every other running headlamp in the range is 120 hours. That is the Low Power runtime from its 5000 mAh battery, and it changes what the lamp is for. This is not a headlamp for an hour on the road after work. It is built for ultra distance, multi day events and night sections long enough that most lamps would need swapping partway through.
What a 5000 mAh pack buys you
The full runtime picture across modes is what makes the capacity useful. Power at 600 lumens carries 120 metres for about 5 hours. Mid Power at 200 lumens reaches 60 metres for around 12 hours. Low Power drops to 20 lumens and stretches to 120 hours.
Five hours at 600 lumens is the figure ultra runners will care about, because it covers a full night section at a genuinely useful brightness without rationing. Twelve hours at 200 lumens covers a long night at a sensible working level. And the pack is replaceable rather than sealed in, so a spare turns an already long runtime into an unlimited one.
Charging takes approximately 330 minutes, around five and a half hours, through the Magnetic Charge System. Status indicators report remaining power, and Backup Mode holds roughly an hour of usable light in reserve once the main charge is spent, which is enough to finish a section rather than stopping in the dark.
Fusion Beam at 1200 lumens
Multiple Xtreme high power LEDs produce up to 1200 lumens in Boost with a beam distance of up to 200 metres. Fusion Beam Technology splits that between a wide, homogeneous flood for the ground near your feet and a strong spot for identifying obstacles well ahead.
On technical trails at night the combination is what keeps your pace up. You are reading immediate footing and route ahead at the same time rather than trading one for the other. Colour temperature runs 5200 to 6200 K at CRI 70.
Carrying 199 grams comfortably
The NEO9R weighs 199 grams with the battery, or 106 grams without it, and the larger cell is why. Ledlenser handles that by mounting the pack at the rear of the headband so it counterbalances the lamp head instead of adding to the load on your forehead.
A removable overhead stability strap is included for a more secure fit, worth using on rough descents where a two point headband alone can shift. A chest belt is supplied as an alternative wearing position, and the head tilts through 45 degrees.
Safety and durability
The headband is reflective, and a red lamp on the battery pack can be set to flash, so you register from behind and the sides too. A Temperature Control System maintains reliable performance under sustained high output, and a Transportation Lock prevents accidental activation in a pack.
Construction is polycarbonate housing and lens with a 57 mm head, rated IP54 for dust and water, drop tested to 2 metres and operational from -20°C to +40°C. This is the Black and Grey colourway; a Black and Blue version of the same lamp is also available.
