Ledlenser MH7 Headlamp: a 600 lumen rechargeable head torch with Dual Power AA backup and a detachable lamp head
Rechargeable headlamps are better than battery models right up until the moment the charge runs out somewhere with no power. The Ledlenser MH7 is designed around closing that gap. It runs on a rechargeable 14500 Li-ion cell for everyday use, and when that cell is flat and there is no charger in sight, a standard AA alkaline or NiMH battery drops straight into the same compartment and the lamp keeps working.
Dual Power is the feature that matters
Ledlenser calls this Dual Power, and on a multi day trip it is worth more than any other item on the spec sheet. It means you carry the efficiency and running cost of a rechargeable lamp without accepting the risk that comes with one. A spare AA weighs almost nothing and turns a dead headlamp back into a working one immediately.
Day to day charging uses the Magnetic Charge System, where the cable snaps onto the lamp by magnet rather than plugging into a socket. There is no rubber port cover to perish or tear off, nothing to line up in the dark, and no small connector to locate while wearing gloves. A full charge takes roughly 270 minutes, about four and a half hours, from the 1550 mAh cell.
600 lumens and 200 metres of reach
Boost mode peaks at 600 lumens with a beam distance of up to 200 metres, giving you enough throw to identify what is at the edge of a clearing or check a path well ahead. Four white output levels, Boost, Power, Mid Power and Low Power, let you match brightness to the task rather than burning battery on maximum. Low Power stretches runtime to between 40 and 60 hours, while Power mode sits at around 3 to 3.5 hours.
The patented Advanced Focus System handles beam shape, moving smoothly from wide flood to tight spot. Rapid Focus makes that adjustment a single handed action, so you can widen the beam to deal with something at your feet and narrow it again without breaking stride.
Dedicated red light for night vision
A separate red LED sits alongside the white light source. Red light lets your eyes stay adapted to darkness, which takes twenty minutes or more to establish and about two seconds of white light to destroy. That makes it the right choice for checking a map, rummaging in a pack, reading a compass or moving quietly near wildlife. Astronomers, hunters and anglers all rely on it for the same reason.
Detachable head and long wear comfort
The lamp head separates from the headband and works as a handheld torch or clips onto clothing, a backpack or gear. That converts a single purchase into whichever kind of light the job actually calls for.
For extended sessions the MH7 uses a washable elastic headband with a secure over the head strap, which stops a 139 gram lamp from working loose during anything more energetic than walking. The head tilts steplessly through 50 degrees for accurate beam placement.
Practical details and durability
Battery and charge indicators show remaining capacity, with a low battery warning before you are caught out. A transportation lock prevents accidental activation in transit. Protection is IP54 against dust and splashing water, drop resistance is 2 metres, and the lamp operates from -20°C to +40°C.
For hiking, mountaineering, camping, hunting, fishing and any trip where charging is uncertain, the MH7 offers serious output with a genuine safety net behind it.
