Ledlenser MH3 Headlamp: a 200 lumen convertible head torch, handheld light and clip light running on a single AA battery
Most headlamps are one thing. The MH3 is three, and it changes between them in about a second. The lamp head lifts straight off the headband, leaving you holding a compact torch that also carries an integrated metal clip, so it can go on a cap peak, a shirt pocket, a belt or a pack strap instead. Flood is what you want within a few metres, spreading light across a tent floor, a cooking area or a tangle of gear. A single AA battery, and why that matters
The MH3 runs on one AA cell, included in the box, and delivers up to 35 hours in Low Power mode. On Power mode expect somewhere around 4 to 4.5 hours.
Choosing AA over a sealed rechargeable pack is a deliberate trade, and for a certain kind of trip it is clearly the right one. AA cells are stocked in every fuel station, corner shop and campsite kiosk in the country. They sit in a glovebox for years without losing much charge. They do not need a cable, a power bank or a working plug point to get you out of trouble. On a long walk, a remote camp or in an emergency kit, that availability beats the convenience of recharging.
If you would rather not buy disposables, the MH3 also accepts AA NiMH rechargeables and 14500 Li-ion cells, so you can run it as a rechargeable lamp day to day and still drop in an alkaline when you are far from a charger.
Built for the outdoors
A transportation lock stops the lamp switching itself on inside a pack, which is the usual cause of a dead battery discovered at exactly the wrong moment. Protection is rated IP54 for dust and splashing water, drop resistance is 2 metres, and the operating range runs from -20°C to +40°C.
