Focusing a headlamp normally means reaching up and twisting the bezel with your whole hand. It works, but it is a two step action that pulls your attention off whatever you were doing. The HF6R Core replaces it with a wheel on the lamp head driving Ledlenser's Digital Advanced Focus System, and the change in how the lamp feels to use is bigger than it sounds.
You roll the wheel with one fingertip. The beam moves continuously between a wide flood for close work and a tight spot for distance, and you stop wherever suits. No grip change, no second hand, no need to look at what you are doing.
That ease is what changes behaviour. A focusing system that takes effort gets set once at the start of a walk and left alone, which means most of your time is spent with the wrong beam for the task. A wheel under your fingertip gets used constantly, so the beam actually tracks what you are doing.
Boost mode reaches 800 lumens with a beam distance of up to 160 metres. Power mode holds around 3 hours of runtime, while Low Power at 20 lumens stretches to as much as 60 hours. Multiple white Xtreme LEDs produce the main output.
Sixty hours is the figure worth planning around. It covers a long weekend of camping, a week of dog walks, or a household outage kit that will not need attention between events. Paired with a Memory Function that restarts in your last used mode, the lamp tends to sit on a low setting and simply keep going.
A dedicated red front light gives softer illumination that leaves your dark adaptation intact, which suits reading in a tent, astronomy, or moving around a sleeping campsite without waking anyone. The stepless tilting lamp head adjusts through roughly 45 degrees so you can drop the beam onto your hands or a work surface. A front switch handles operation one handed.
The integrated Li-ion battery is rated 2000 mAh and 7.4 Wh, recharging through the USB-C compatible Magnetic Charge System in approximately 225 minutes, about three and three quarter hours. The magnetic connection has no port cover to fail, which is part of how the lamp keeps its sealing rating over years rather than months.
Backup Mode preserves usable light as the battery runs low rather than cutting out abruptly. Temperature Control maintains steady output, a Transportation Lock prevents accidental activation, and battery and charge indicators with a low battery warning tell you where you stand.
The housing is aluminium, with the whole lamp weighing 126 grams. The adjustable headband includes a silicone comfort pad, which stops the band creeping and spreads pressure across a wider area during long wear.
Sealing is IP68, fully dust tight and submersible, with 2 metre drop resistance and operation from -20°C to +40°C. For hiking, camping, running, DIY and everyday use, this is a well judged all rounder.
