Ledlenser C7R Classic Flashlight: 1000 lumens with a magnetic bracket that gives the torch a permanent home
A torch is only useful if it is charged, and the reason most rechargeable torches are flat when you reach for them is that charging requires a decision. You have to find the cable, connect it, and remember to have done so. The Ledlenser C7R Classic flashlight removes that step entirely with the Floating Charge System, a magnetic bracket that accepts the torch when you put it down and charges it for the whole time it sits there.
How the Floating Charge System works
The bracket fixes to a wall and the torch attaches magnetically rather than being pushed into a socket. There is nothing to line up and no port to find, so it goes back one handed without looking. A charging status indicator on the bracket shows what is happening.
Mounted beside a back door, at a workbench, in a workshop or inside a vehicle, this changes the way the torch behaves in daily life. It is never being charged and never needs to be, because it is always charging, and the answer to where it is never changes.
Rapid Focus and Focus Lock
The head slides to focus, and Rapid Focus lets you do it in one motion with one hand while the other stays occupied. Focus Lock then holds the setting, so the beam does not creep back when the torch is knocked or carried. Between them you set the beam once for a task and it stays where you put it.
Ledlenser C7R Classic flashlight output
High gives 1000 lumens to 210 metres for about 2 hours. Mid runs 250 lumens to 150 metres for around 5 hours. Low provides 20 lumens to 40 metres for up to 40 hours. The emitter is a white LED at 6000 to 8000 K with CRI 65, and Smart Light Technology allows the lighting functions and modes to be configured to preference rather than accepted as shipped.
What Classic means in this range
The Classic line sits alongside the P series and takes a different view of what a torch should be. Where the P models chase output, sealing and reach, the Classic models prioritise the things that decide whether a torch is actually to hand: the charging bracket, the one handed focus, a modest weight and a price that makes owning several reasonable. The C7R is the larger of the two, and the one to pick when 1000 lumens is genuinely needed.
The tail switch
Operation comes from a tail cap switch with momentary activation, so a light press produces light only while it is held. That suits signalling and quick checks, and it lets you use the torch briefly without committing to switching it on and then off again.
Forty hours on low
The low setting draws 20 lumens and runs for about 40 hours. That is a useful figure for a torch mounted beside a door, because an evening without power costs almost nothing from the cell and the torch is back on its bracket and full by morning. It is also the right setting for moving around indoors, where 1000 lumens bouncing off a white wall is more hindrance than help.
Battery and build
A rechargeable 18650 Li-ion cell is included, typically in the 2200 to 2500 mAh range, taking about 5 hours to reach a full charge. The housing is aluminium alloy, 158 millimetres long, going to 166 when focused, with a 37 millimetre head, and it weighs 210 grams with the cell fitted.
Protection is IP54 with a 1 metre drop rating. That covers dust, splashes, rain and the ordinary knocks of workshop and household use. It is not a submersible torch, and if the intended use involves water, the IP68 rated models elsewhere in the range are the correct choice.
