Ledlenser AF12R Work Floodlight: 8000 lumens and 135 metres of reach, without a generator behind it
Lighting a site at night has traditionally meant a generator, a halogen tower, a run of cable and somebody responsible for fuel. The AF12R replaces that arrangement for a large share of the jobs it used to be needed for. It puts out 8000 lumens, throws up to 135 metres, weighs 2590 grams and needs nothing behind it except a charge. No fuel, no exhaust, no cable to trip over and nothing to trip a breaker.
What 8000 lumens actually covers
At full output this lights a working area rather than a work surface. A loading bay, a section of scaffold, a vehicle recovery on a verge, a plant room during a shutdown, the face of a building for night maintenance. The 135 metre reach means it is also useful pointed down a length of road, a fence line or a conveyor run, which is not something smaller area lights manage. Multi Concentrated Light Technology keeps that output directed instead of bleeding it into the sky.
The full brightness ladder
Full power gives 8000 lumens to 135 metres for around 1 hour. Below that, 6500 lumens reaches 120 metres for 1.5 hours, 4500 lumens reaches 100 metres for 2 hours, 2400 lumens reaches 70 metres for 4.5 hours, and the low step of 850 lumens reaches 40 metres for up to 12.5 hours. Full output is a tool for short intense periods. The 2400 lumen step is where most overnight work sits, and it still outperforms a lot of lights running flat out.
Choosing the Ledlenser AF12R work floodlight over a generator and halogen setup
The comparison is not only about convenience. Halogen towers run hot enough to be a burn risk and a fire risk near anything combustible, they draw significant power, and they need a generator running nearby for the duration, which means noise and fumes in the space you are working in. The AF12R runs cold enough to reposition by hand, silent, and indoors without ventilation concerns. For night work near occupied buildings, that last point often decides it on its own.
Running through the night on mains
Hybrid Power lets it run directly from the included adapter while charging the internal pack. Anywhere with a wall socket, runtime stops being a limit and the battery becomes a reserve for the moment the supply drops or the light needs to move. For planned overnight shutdowns and extended maintenance windows, this is the mode that matters, and the 6 hour USB-C charge cycle happens while the light is still doing its job.
Emergency and unplanned work
A light that carries its own power and needs no setup is a different proposition in an emergency to one that needs a generator started and cable run out. Vehicle recovery, storm damage, a burst main, a breakdown that has stopped a line at two in the morning: the first useful minutes in all of those are spent seeing the problem, and 8000 lumens arriving within seconds of opening a vehicle door changes what those minutes are worth. The 41 millimetre depth is part of the same argument, because a light this slim rides flat in a vehicle permanently rather than being loaded whenever somebody anticipates needing it.
Size, weight and handling
At 382 by 214 by 41 millimetres it is wide but genuinely slim, so it stacks and stores in a way a tripod tower never will. The 2590 gram weight is a two hand carry for any distance and a one hand reposition once you are there. An integrated magnet holds it to structural steel, plant and vehicle bodywork, and the pivoting stand takes a standard quarter inch tripod thread if you need it up high, though the tripod itself is sold separately.
Built for outdoor conditions
IP67 rating covers dust and water, the chemical resistant aluminium housing handles solvents and fuels, and it survives a 1.5 metre drop onto a hard surface. It operates from minus 20 to plus 40 degrees Celsius, with Temperature Control and Cooling Technology managing heat at high output. Five colour temperatures from 3000 K to 6500 K and CRI 80 rendering mean the light is accurate as well as plentiful, and an optional Bluetooth controller handles units mounted out of reach.
