Which smart lock?

Electric strike or magnetic lock?

An electric strike replaces the keeper plate in the frame and releases the existing latch, so the door hardware stays as it is. A magnetic lock holds the door shut by electromagnet, which means no moving parts and considerable holding force, but it also means the door is unlocked whenever power fails. The 600lb rating on the maglock here refers to holding force. Which you choose usually comes down to whether the door must stay locked or must fail open during an outage, and that is a decision worth making deliberately rather than by default.

Safe sizing

The Stellar200 comes in a laptop size and a small size, and the difference is internal capacity rather than security rating. Measure what you intend to store, particularly if a laptop is involved, since the small version will not take one. Both use fingerprint access.

Common questions

Will a smart lock fit my door? Check the existing lock type, door thickness and backset before ordering. Smart locks are not universal, and a mortice lock and a cylinder lock need different products.

What happens if the battery dies? Most smart locks warn well in advance and offer an emergency power option. Check the specific model, and keep a mechanical key where the lock provides one.

Is the alarmed security box a safe? It is a lockable box with an alarm rather than a rated safe. For valuables, the Stellar200 is the better choice.

Does the maglock need a separate power supply? Yes, and it must be sized for continuous draw since a maglock is energised whenever the door is locked.
