Wall mount or floor standing

A 2U wall mount cabinet keeps a small setup off the floor and out of the way, which suits a domestic or small office install where there is a switch and a recorder and nothing more. A 9U floor standing cabinet handles a full setup with room for a UPS underneath, and is the sensible choice anywhere the installation is likely to expand.

Glass door or solid

A glass door lets you see status lights without opening the cabinet, which is genuinely useful for diagnosing a problem at a glance. Solid doors are more discreet and give slightly better protection from dust. Neither affects ventilation meaningfully, since both rely on vents rather than the door.

Common questions

Will my equipment fit? Check depth as well as height. A shallow wall mount cabinet may not take a deep NVR, and depth is the dimension people forget.

Does it need cooling? For a small switch and recorder, passive ventilation is usually enough. Add a fan if the cabinet is enclosed, in a warm room, or holding equipment that runs hot.

Can I mount a UPS in these? A 9U cabinet has room for one at the bottom. UPS units are heavy, so mount low and check the cabinet load rating.

Are these lockable? Check the individual listing, since lock arrangements vary. On a shared or public site, a lock is worth confirming before ordering.
