Measure the actual cable route rather than the straight line distance. Cable that runs up a wall, through a ceiling and back down covers considerably more ground than the room suggests, and an extender that falls short is no use at all.

What EDID does and why it matters

EDID is how a display tells a source what resolutions it supports. Over a long extended run that handshake can fail, and the symptom is a blank screen or a picture that will not settle at the right resolution.
