Nylon or steel rack?

Nylon racks are quieter, cheaper and entirely adequate for a normal residential gate. Steel racks cost more and handle heavier gates and higher cycle counts, which is why they turn up on complexes and commercial sites where the gate may run fifty times a day. For a household gate opening a handful of times daily, nylon is usually the sensible choice.

What else does an installation need?

A motor kit alone is rarely the whole job. Infrared safety beams stop the gate closing on a vehicle or a person and should be treated as essential rather than optional.
