Astrum makes accessible computer peripherals and networking accessories, and the selection stocked here covers the small items that tend to be needed rather than wanted: a mouse, a network adapter, a fibre patch lead. NeonSales carries 4 Astrum products, from R75 for a fibre optic patch cable up to R435 for a USB to gigabit ethernet converter.
Laptops increasingly ship without a network port, which is a problem the moment you need to configure an NVR, a router or a camera on a wired connection. A USB to gigabit adapter restores that port. For anyone installing or servicing network equipment it is a tool rather than a luxury, since plenty of devices only expose their setup interface over a direct cable.
The FP101 is a 1 metre SC to SC patch lead, used for connecting fibre equipment within a rack or cabinet. Connector type matters, since SC, LC and ST are not interchangeable, so check what your equipment terminates in before ordering. Fibre leads are also easy to damage by bending too tightly, and a kinked lead fails without looking broken.
Rechargeable or battery mouse? The MW230 is rechargeable, which removes the battery cost and the moment it dies mid-task. The MW280 is the gaming-oriented option with RGB lighting.
Will the converter work on any laptop? USB ethernet adapters are broadly supported on current operating systems. Older machines may need drivers, so check before relying on it for a site visit.
Is a 1 metre patch lead long enough? Within a cabinet, usually yes. For anything crossing a room you need a longer lead, and stretching a short one puts strain on the connector.
