Nemtek Electric Fence Energizers and Components in South Africa

Nemtek is South African built and the dominant name in electric fencing here, which matters because an electric fence is a system rather than a product. Insulators, brackets, tensioners and cable all have to work together, and buying within one brand removes most of the compatibility problems. NeonSales carries 57 Nemtek products, from R2 for a bobbin or self tapper hook up to R6,600 for a Druid 114 LCD energizer.

What Nemtek products does NeonSales stock?

  • Energizers: Druid 114 LCD, with Druid single zone keypads
  • Connectivity: Connect 2G app module for remote monitoring and control
  • Cable and conductors: HT Slimline cable in 200m rolls, galvanised round bar in 6 wire
  • Insulators: Jurassic slot insulators, bobbins, flat bobbins
  • Tensioning: Donald tensioners in galvanised, hybrid compression springs, fence springs
  • Mounting: galvanised nail-on poles in 6 wire, standard and long self tapper hooks
  • Connections: stainless steel ferrules, lugs in 1.5 to 6mm, copper earth spikes
  • Indicators: fence lights in blue and grey, red strobe lights, Wizord 4 magnets with holders

What an electric fence actually needs

Component Job Why it matters
Energizer Generates the pulse Sized to the fence length and number of zones
Earth spike Completes the circuit through the ground Poor earthing is the most common cause of a weak fence
Insulators Keep the live wire off the structure A cracked insulator leaks current and drops the whole fence
Tensioners and springs Hold wire tension through temperature change Loose wire touches and shorts, tight wire snaps in cold
Fence light Shows the fence is live at a glance Confirms operation without a tester

Earthing is where most fences fail

An electric fence works by completing a circuit through the ground, which means the earth spike matters as much as the energizer. A single short spike in dry Highveld soil will not carry the return current, and the symptom is a fence that tests fine at the energizer and delivers almost nothing at the far corner. Copper spikes at 1.2m, driven into damp ground and properly connected with lugs, are the fix. If your fence is underperforming, check earthing before replacing anything expensive.

What the Connect module adds

The Connect 2G app module puts the energizer on your phone, so you can see zone status, arm and disarm, and get alerted when a zone trips rather than discovering it the next morning. On a property where the fence is the primary perimeter, that is the difference between a deterrent and a monitored system.

Common questions

What size energizer do I need? It depends on total wire length and the number of zones you want monitored independently. Underspecifying gives you a weak fence at distance, so size up rather than down.

Why are there so many small components? Because a fence run consumes them in quantity. Ferrules, lugs, springs and insulators are bought by the hundred on a full install, which is why they are priced individually.

Galvanised or stainless? Stainless ferrules resist corrosion better, particularly near the coast. Galvanised is adequate inland and cheaper.

What does the strobe do? It provides a visible alarm indication when a zone is triggered, useful where the fence is out of sight of the house.
