SPA ARTEMIS P15 BULLPUP PCP AIR RIFLE .22 CAL

 The ARTEMIS P15 is probably one of the more iconic bullpup PCP rifles of the previous decade, which at the time, was one of the first PCP's in its price bracket locally to feature this amazing bullpup design - basically where you get the full length of the barrel and rifle action, but the breech is just situated rearwardly, behind the handle (instead of in front thereof, like a typical rifle)

The rail ontop is a dedicated / uninterrupted type that has no breech separating it into two segments and is slightly elevated. We do recommend opting for as low as possible set of mount rings, in order to still enjoy a reasonable cheek weld whilst enjoying a full sight picture on the telescope.

The buttplate is rubberized and does lend for positive shoulder traction. Please also note that, when shouldering the rifle, your upper body will cram up a little bit, in order to both shoulder the rifle as well as to get a sight picture. We also found that the weight is evenly distributed across the rifle, so it feels much lighter than 2 kilograms.

The cocking action of the magazine sits on the right hand face of the receiver and you only have a horizontal lever, no vertical support attached to the lever. Nevertheless, the cocking force is still easy, with the lever jumping out when engaging it from its breech-lock position, whereafter just a little bit of resistance in an arc of movement needs to be defeated.

The magazine of course, inserts top-down, slotting down along a groove in the breech that corresponds to the vertical dovetail in the magazine. This magazine is a self-indexing type, made of anodized aluminium as its body, polymer indexer core, transparent vinyl face and spring-loaded of course. As per the run-of-the-mill self-indexing magazines, you'll need to rotate / index the magazine against the spring tension to its maximum and insert a pellet from behind, w/ the tail in first. This acts as your index retainer and will be your first pellet to be sent through the barrel. Thereafter, you can load up your rermaining pellets in sequential or insequential order.

The frontal third of the barrel lenngth approximately is shrouded, though containing no baffle inserts. At the rear of the shroud, there are small redirect holes, where some of the stripped air will vent. The shroud has an end cap w/ male threading that can be threaded off. Doing so of course, exposes both the barrel as well as the female threads, whereafter a silencer adapter can be affixed / threaded on. Adding a silencer to this rifle makes it that much more quiet, allowing you to hunt and smoke those pesky undesirable, invasive birds w/out alerting the neighbourhood.

The rifle fills up of course, to 250 BAR and can be done so via the included filling probe. You'll see that the filling port at the nose end of the cylinder, right behind the manometer, is concealed inside a spring-loaded sleeve that must be pushed forward to expose it. Thereafter, you can plug this probe in. This rifle is supplied w/ a female Q/C fitting, featuring male 1/8" BPT threading at the back. Ten-to-one you'll not need to use it, as most handpumps, filling stations and compressors, come w/ the female foster fitting to attach it. Please note that in some cases, you might need to cock the rifle prior to filling up, otherwise the air will escape directly out the barrel as it enters the air cylinder.

Right out of the box, this rifle packs about 812 FPS average w/ 16.8 ~ 17gr domed lead pellets, specifically the SNOWPEAK ones. Torquing up the external hammer spring, should boost this figure up to 850 FPS, which is still modest. though nevertheless, this is still plenty of killing power at around 100 meters. At that distance, you'll be able to smoke mynah's w/out much difficulty, just look at a scope w/ the appropriate magnification, for making those shots.

Otherwise, we really cannot find much fault with this rifle - the world of aftermarket modification stands wide open for this rifle - if you have your own 3D printer - all the better!

In terms of power upgrades - alot of people will suggest pricey power plenums, which do work very well, however - old faithful - stretch the spring on the hammer out or add a spacer and drill the transfer port a tiny bit. This should be a cheap, DIY way of getting more power out of your rifle, however, expect your shot count per fill to go down as well.
